Oregon legislature votes to fund transition but rejects funding detransition

I ran across this thread from Oregon State Representative Ed Diehl. He sits on the House Behavioral Health and Health Care Committee in the Oregon House of Representatives, where the committee just did a markup of House Bill 2002-A, which among other horrible provisions relating to abortion “care” also mandates the coverage for gender transition “care.”

Overall the bill is practically demonic. It is represented as expanding reproductive rights, but the actual bill itself is aimed at eliminating reproduction by killing babies and sterilizing living people. If you want to be disgusted by man’s inhumanity to man, go read the bill. It is an offense against humanity.

Representative Diehl’s Twitter thread focused on the sterilization and mutilation part of the bill and the absurd provisions contained within. They reveal quite a bit about the absolute hypocrisy of those claiming to be exercising compassion for suffering people.

Think about that for a minute. Let’s presume somebody is genuinely suffering and believes they need “gender-affirming care.” The state will require health insurance to cover whatever procedures you want to change your gender. If you find, though, that changing your gender actually causes even more genuine suffering then you are out of luck.

It is not helping relieve the suffering that the bill is intended to do; it is sterilizing and mutilating as many people as possible. Once that is done they dispose of the inconvenient body. You literally don’t matter anymore.

This isn’t a mistake–something that nobody thought to correct. The Leftists chose this path and rejected attempts to help people detransition. Detransitioners don’t count. They are intentionally being left on their own. Any concern about their health, mental or physical, is irrelevant once they have been sliced apart.

That 7%-30% number will be low, because of the huge expansion in the number of children undergoing transition. It is clearly a social contagion that will eventually subside, leaving thousands of victims in its wake. We are already starting to see a movement of people who regret what has been done to them, and the conscious desire of the legislature is to bury the fact of their existence and to leave them with their suffering.

Diehl is absolutely correct here. The claim is that we must allow and encourage transition because people are “born into the wrong body” and must be helped to align their physical body with their perceived gender. But if people can make mistakes, or if gender transition is a lifestyle choice, it is something completely different.

Worse, you can’t make the claim that the transitioners made a “choice.” We are, often, speaking of children who cannot consent to medical procedures normally because they are incapable of understanding the long-term implications. They are being pushed into medical procedures without informed consent, based upon the idea that this is necessary care to relieve their suffering.

But if that turns out not to be the case, there is no justification either for requiring the funding or if it is funded, denying the coverage to return (very imperfectly) to their natural state.

Detransitioners are an embodied refutation of gender ideology. Their mere existence is a rebuke to the idea that doctors can reliably diagnose and treat gender dysphoria. And if they cannot do that, their actions are monstrous.

I have often compared “gender-affirming care” to lobotomies, which were highly celebrated as beneficial. The inventor won a Nobel Prize in Medicine for doing so. We now look back on lobotomies, rightly, as monstrous.

The same will be true of the gender craze today. And, as with lobotomies, the only people who pay the price for this evil practice will be the victims, not the perpetrators.
