Hamlin, NFL, and the necessity of questions: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

Have we grown accustomed to debate-quashing narratives, even in the face of the unexplained? Adam Baldwin wonders why the media jumped to its own conclusion despite a lack of data in the truly terrifying Monday Night Football episode last week, and why so many people insisted on shutting down discussion in favor of only one avenue of speculation.

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

This comes at a propitious moment, as we have seen the same narrative-policing collapse with the COVID pandemic. This morning, it was the Washington Post which drove a stake through the idea that Russian trolls impacted Americans’ election choices in 2016 or any other cycle. Instead of discussing those issues in public fora, Big Tech and government agencies censored debate and individuals to maintain their preferred narratives.

That doesn’t mean that Damar Hamlin didn’t suffer from commotio cordis. It does mean, however, that the sudden insistence based on zero evidence that it was the only legitimate explanation raised a lot of red flags. We have seen these same kind of efforts to quash debate and discussion before. In fact, as Adam and I joke in this episode, practically half of this discussion would have gotten us kicked off Twitter and Facebook until recently, and maybe even still might.

But that’s why we have such great VIP members supporting us! And we hope you enjoy this discussion and give us your thoughts in the comments. You can bet that Adam and I will return to this topic in our next episode, too.
