Oops. NewsNation outpaces CNN in latest ratings

Well, given the intensity of the latest news cycle, it may come as a surprise to some viewers that NewsNation has eaten into the already sagging ratings of CNN and beaten them in some key demographics.  In a recent cycle, Nielsen Media Research found the upstart news network defeated CNN in viewership for some recent stories that have been burning up the airwaves. This was particularly true with their coverage of the recent congressional UFO hearings. (Sats from Nielsen Media Research)

According to Nielsen Media Research, NewsNation’s UFO Special “We are not Alone: The Historic Hearing” which aired this past Sunday at 9 PM ET outpaced CNN’s “See it Loud” in the key 25-54 demographic (39, 000 vs. 32,000). CNN’s showing of “See it Loud” lost 70% percent of its average audience.

In fact, the special beat CNN by 22% percent in the all-important demo and grew the audience by 105% percent compared to prior months in the same time period.

Moreover, NewsNation’s Sunday night primetime timeslot drew over 100,000 viewers and was up by 16% in overall total viewers.

We seem to be seeing some definite shifts in the traditional ratings breakdowns for political news coverage. Personally, I’ve been watching a lot less of CNN recently and probably a bit less of Fox News after Tucker left, but NewsNation has been covering a lot more of the material I’m interested in. They clearly have a hill to climb, but the field appears to be open to new entrants and people are entertaining new options.

Sure, NewsNation gets a bit more of my attention because of their fearless coverage of the congressional UFO hearings that we’ve been dealing with here. But they also seem to be trying to draw a diverse audience that wants to hear both sides of all conversations, not just the partisan pattern of the right versus the left.

We have a huge problem right now with the mainstream media feeding themes of disinformation into the public’s bloodstream and we’ve discussed this here repeatedly. Much like Salem Media and Hot Air have challenged the conventions of the MSM, we should all look for other media outlets that are willing to buck the trends and get alternate voices out there. I’m growing more hopeful that this trend will continue.
