The audience at Dave Chappelle’s comedy show in San Francisco didn’t exactly extend a warm welcome to Elon Musk when he joined the comedian on stage Sunday. Chappelle invited Musk on stage and there was a lot of booing going on. To Chappelle’s credit, he spoke up for Musk, poking fun at the audience when they booed.

Chappelle performed at a special Punchline Comedy Club event in San Francisco at the Chase Center. According to some reports, there were about 18,000 people in the audience. The majority were not happy and booed Musk. Musk bought Twitter in October for $44B and fired thousands of the staff. Twitter is headquartered in San Francisco.

Keep in mind that Musk is releasing the Twitter Files through selected journalists. The last installment was released on Saturday night. In that installment, the decision to ban Trump is discussed. There was recognition that no other world leader had been banned, yet they went ahead and banned Trump.

Chappelle made some jokes to lighten up the situation as the audience booed. Musk is treating Twitter employees as a businessman would, not a political activist, unlike as the previous ownership turned out to be. So, there have been thousands of people who were let go, especially those critical of the company and Musk’s purchase.

Musk said to Chapelle onstage: “Weren’t expecting this were you?” to which Chapelle replied, “It sounds like some of them people you fired are in the audience.”

Chappelle then addressed those booing saying, “Wait, wait, those of you booing… I’m just pointing out they have terrible seats.”

Speaking of Musk, he said, “This n**** not even trying to die on earth. His whole business model is f*** earth, I’m leaving anyway.”

Chappelle joked about travel to Mars and he chided the audience again.

Chappelle joked the reason he invited Musk on stage was to make sure didn’t “miss this opportunity,” because “the first comedy club on Mars, that should be mine.”

The comedian then lashed out at the audience again.

“Do you hear that sound Elon? That’s the sound of pending civil unrest. I can’t wait to see what story you decimate next motherf*****,” Chappelle said.

“You shut the f*** up with your boos. There’s something better you can do. Booing is not the best thing you can do. I wish everybody in this audience peace.”

Audience members tweeted out their hot takes. One did a whole thread on why he thinks Chappelle did it and what Musk could have done instead of just looking awkward on stage as people booed.

That’s a part of the thread. You get the picture.

It’s interesting given how Chappelle has been treated by the progressive left since his Netflix show The Closer was released. He’s been in a kerfuffle with the trans community over some jokes he made. The left can’t take criticism of any kind. Their bubble is so strong that they are completely unable to handle it when an impartial voice shows up and pokes fun at everyone, not just conservatives, in comedy routines.

Last week, Elton John made a whole thing about leaving Twitter over Musk’s takeover. Several celebrities have said they are going to do that but none seem to have actually left. Elton John cites the spread of misinformation. Musk responded to the tweet.

Naturally, Elton has no answer to Musk’s question. Kari Lake jumped in.

The criticism from the left about Twitter now is completely ridiculous. It is being run by an independent thinker now instead of a progressive and the left doesn’t like that conservatives are not being shut out anymore. They think freedom of speech only goes their way. It’s past time they understood it’s for everyone. Good luck to Elon Musk. I hope he keeps up what he has started. Expose the bad behavior of the previous leadership and continue to allow a more open forum on the platform.
