Lopez Obrador urges Hispanic voters to not give DeSantis 'any votes'

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) is no fan of Ron DeSantis. He is coming out publicly to urge Hispanic American voters to not vote for him. He doesn’t want “any votes” from Hispanics to go to DeSantis. AMLO is emboldened by a weak American president and policies that leave our southern border porous to weigh in on American elections, in particular, the 2024 presidential election.

What a world. It’s not even the first time AMLO has counseled Hispanic voters on how they should vote. Since nothing happened last time, he’s doing it again. When AMLO interferes in American elections, it is always against Republicans. After DeSantis launched his campaign on Wednesday, AMLO felt compelled to make his opinion known. He doesn’t like DeSantis’s opposition to illegal immigration. Like Joe Biden, AMLO isn’t interested in securing the U.S.-Mexican border.

Lopez Obrador spoke at a press conference a day after DeSantis declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. DeSantis has taken a hard stance against illegal immigration, and has called for greater security at the border — including shutting down the border with Mexico.

Lopez Obrador accused DeSantis of pushing “anti-immigrant” policies and urged Hispanics not to vote for him.

“I hope the Hispanics of Florida wake up and don’t give him any votes, that they don’t vote for those who persecute migrants, those who don’t respect migrants,” he said, according to The Guardian.

Perhaps no one told AMLO that DeSantis already won re-election in Florida by a landslide-level of votes and many of those voters were Hispanic. DeSantis flipped Miami-Dade County from a deep blue county to a red county. Sorry, AMLO, no one is paying attention to you.

AMLO butted in to American politics in March when he threatened to launch an “information campaign” against Republicans and told Hispanics not to vote for them. Why? Because lawmakers were suggesting potential military action to take out drug cartels manufacturing fentanyl in Mexico and sending it to the United States.

“Starting today we are going to start an information campaign for Mexicans who live and work in the United States and for all Hispanics to inform them of what we are doing in Mexico and how this initiative by the Republicans, in addition to being irresponsible, is an offense against the people of Mexico, a lack of respect for our independence, our sovereignty,” he said.

“And if they do not change their attitude and think that they are going to use Mexico for their propaganda, electoral, and political purposes, we are going to call for them not to vote for that party, because it is interventionist, inhumane, hypocritical, and corrupt,” Lopez Obrador said, later adding that Mexico would be insisting that “not one vote” goes to Republicans from Mexicans and Hispanics.

Hmm. Sounds like a threat, right? Joe Biden didn’t pay any attention, though, and nothing was done. It wasn’t his party that AMLO was threatening.

In July 2022, AMLO called or Hispanic voters to not vote for Texas Governor Greg Abbott. “Mexico is going to ask our countrymen there that they don’t vote for that candidate or party.” Abbott is a Republican. Abbott enjoys a decent share of support from Hispanic voters. His wife, Cecilia, is the first Hispanic First Lady of Texas. Too bad, AMLO, DeSantis has recently sent law enforcement and National Guard troops to Texas at the request of Governor Abbott to help secure the border.

AMLO said that American lawmakers unfairly connect him to the Chinese Communist regime and fentanyl. Fentanyl is manufactured in Mexico using Chinese precursors. Instead, AMLO blamed the fentanyl epidemic on a loss of values and Americans living on welfare. “These positions are in themselves a lack of respect and a threat to our sovereignty, and moreover they are based on an absurd, manipulative, propagandistic and demagogic attitude.”

Thursday a Homeland Security adviser, Liz Sherwood Randall, pushed back on AMLO’s claims during an interview with the Council on Foreign Relations. She called Mexico “the principal pathway to which fentanyl is coming into our country and it’s coming in both powder and in pill forms to our country from Mexico.” Surely AMLO will call for a boycott of Hispanics voting for Democrats, right? Uh huh.

There are numerous drug busts along the southern border each and every week. It very clearly comes from Mexico. AMLO is delusional, or just a liar. Probably both. Sherwood Randall said she has spoken directly with AMLO “about this challenge.”

“Our Department of Homeland Security is working directly with Mexican military, which has been assigned the duties of interdicting the arrival of fentanyl into Mexico,” she said. “We’re working to enable the Mexicans to do better with technology identifying what’s coming in with intelligence.”

Sherwood Randall says prosecution is another big deterrent being implemented in the fight against fentanyl and those who make it and send it to the U.S.

“Our department of justice is working with their department of justice to prosecute those who are actually bringing the fentanyl in and moving it through Mexico — we have to stop the production and we have to stop the trafficking through our border into our country,” she said.

Sherwood Randall also said Mexico has become more interested in helping because “they are now seeing the danger to their own country.”

“When you work with other countries, much of what you get a country to do is not out of charity but out of self-interest, Mexico realizes it has a problem too.”

Too bad Biden isn’t particularly interested in securing the border or stopping the flow of drugs that the Biden border crisis has created. It produces death and destruction in our country yet drug cartels continue to operate on the border. Now AMLO thinks it is ok to meddle in our elections. Thanks, Joe.
