Obama: We Are All Complicit For the Violence in Israel-Hamas War

Barack Obama was a guest on the podcast Pod Save America. The podcast was released on Saturday. During the broadcast, the former president pontificated “All of us are complicit.”

Let’s remember Obama’s most recent reactions to the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. He let days go by before he even commented on the horrific start to this war. When Hamas paraglided over a music festival and murdered festival-goers and took others hostage back into Gaza, Obama was silent. After an Israeli kibbutz massacre, Obama was silent. He was silent for so long that people began questioning why he was not releasing a statement. When several days had gone by, Obama posted a tweet where he expressed his sadness over the massacre and said Israel has a right to defend herself. Then he released a long essay on Medium on October 23. There was a big ole “but” coming after his expressed support of Israel.

It’s been 17 days since Hamas launched its horrific attack against Israel, killing over 1,400 Israeli citizens, including defenseless women, children and the elderly. In the aftermath of such unspeakable brutality, the U.S. government and the American people have shared in the grief of families, prayed for the return of loved ones, and rightly declared solidarity with the Israeli people.

As I stated in an earlier post, Israel has a right to defend its citizens against such wanton violence, and I fully support President Biden’s call for the United States to support our long-time ally in going after Hamas, dismantling its military capabilities, and facilitating the safe return of hundreds of hostages to their families.

But even as we support Israel, we should also be clear that how Israel prosecutes this fight against Hamas matters. In particular, it matters — as President Biden has repeatedly emphasized — that Israel’s military strategy abides by international law, including those laws that seek to avoid, to every extent possible, the death or suffering of civilian populations. Upholding these values is important for its own sake — because it is morally just and reflects our belief in the inherent value of every human life. Upholding these values is also vital for building alliances and shaping international opinion — all of which are critical for Israel’s long-term security.

Obama never skips an opportunity to demonize Israel. Israel is well aware of how to defend herself. How dare he lecture Israel about taking care when it comes to protecting innocent lives. It is the animals in Hamas that killed innocent Israelis to begin this war. They beheaded babies, put babies in ovens, raped women and killed them in front of their children, dragged old people from their homes to kill them, and took Israelis hostage. Spare us the concern over innocents, Barack.

Israel is known for their precision strikes. They take care to spare innocent lives. Israel distributed flyers before the ground war began to warn Gazans to leave and seek refuge elsewhere.

During the podcast – a podcast hosted by his former White House staffers – Obama tried to blame everyone for the war now waged in Gaza. The worst of the bad statements he made was when he said “All of us are complicit to some degree.”

“If you want to solve the problem, then you have to take in the whole truth. And you then have to admit nobody’s hands are clean, that all of us are complicit to some degree,” he said in an excerpted interview with Pod Save America released Saturday.

Reflecting on his presidency, Obama posed the question, “Well, was there something else I could have done?”

The former president argued that it was important to acknowledge multiple seemingly contradictory truths: Hamas’ actions were “horrific,” but “the occupation and what’s happening to Palestinians” were also “unbearable.”

Obama is as clueless as ever and as hateful to Israel as always. Barack Obama is the president who made Bibi Netanyahu enter the White House through a side door, not the front door as others do. Former Obama staff worked to oust Netanyahu in 2015. The Obama administration sent taxpayer money to campaign to oust Netanyahu.

Even in more recent times, Obama continues to blame Netanyahu. In 2022 the Justice Department released the transcript of the off-record conversation, which took place between Obama and reporters three days before Trump was inaugurated. Obama blamed Netanyahu for fueling ‘Putinism.’

As for Obama’s pearl-clutching over ‘occupation’, Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. The former president knows this. He chooses, however, to use the words used by Hamas.

More than anything else, Obama funded Iranian madmen in their quest to destroy Israel. Obama sent pallets of American dollars to fund the Iranian nuclear program in the guise that it was some kind of deal with Iran to not produce nuclear weapons. Who would trust the Iranians, other than Barack Obama and now Joe Biden? Biden’s administration has not given up on making some kind of deal with Iran on nuclear weapons and recently said the administration would release billions in frozen Iranian assets. No one thinks it was a coincidence that Hamas went ahead with its attack on Israel shortly after that announcement. Hamas is funded by Iran.

Obama was complicit in bringing Israel to this place. For him to now try to bring everyone into his wrong-headed behavior is maddening. Obama was dangerously naive on the world stage, much like Biden. Obama was too busy doing world tours to apologize for America to be a strong leader. His record is clear. He can’t rewrite history now.
